     Dr. Uma Tyagi, Librarian

 

     Dr. Uma Tyagi assumed the role of Librarian at VPCI Library on July 25, 2001. Her academic journey commenced with a Bachelor's in Science from Meerut College, Uttar Pradesh, followed by successfully completing her M.Sc. and Masters in Philosophy (Nuclear Physics) from C.C.S. University, Meerut. Driven by her passion for library and information science, she pursued and achieved both her Bachelor's and Master's degrees in the field from the Department of Library and Information Science (DLIS), University of Delhi. Her scholarly dedication was further demonstrated by securing a U.G.C. N.E.T. fellowship in her first attempt. The pinnacle of her educational achievements came with a Doctorate Degree in Library and Information Science from Indira Gandhi National Open University, New Delhi.

 

Before assuming her current position, Dr Uma Tyagi garnered invaluable experience working with the National Informatics Centre (N.I.C.), Ministry of I.T. With a professional and academic tenure spanning nearly 25 years, she has contributed to various Central Government departments and Autonomous organizations. Her initial experiences were at DELNET, followed by the National Informatics Centre, and currently, she holds the position of Librarianat Vallabhbhai Patel Chest Institute, University of Delhi. In her current role, she continues guiding graduate and postgraduate library and information sciences students at IGNOU and S.O.L., D.U., in their project and thesis work.

 

Dr. Tyagi's scholarly pursuits extend beyond mentoring, as evidenced by her publications. She has authored books and numerous articles, delving into her research and professional experiences within the diverse realms of Library and Information Science. These contributions have found homes in various reputed national and international journals. Her research focus includes I.C.T. applications in libraries, ICT-based library functions and services, and I.C.T. competencies for L.I.S. professionals.

 

Actively engaged in the professional community, Dr Uma Tyagi is associated with several esteemed organizations such as the Indian Library Association (ILA), Delhi Library Association (DLA), Society for Library Professionals (S.L.P.), Developing Library Network (DELNET), Society for the Advancement of Library and Information Science (SALIS), Ranganathan Research Circle, and KalamPrernaManch. Her multifaceted involvement reflects her commitment to advancing the Library and Information Science field.
