Shailendra Nath Gaur was born on 23rd May 1952. He did his M.B.B.S. in 1973, M.D. in 1977 from MotiLal Nehru Medical College, Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh, and PhD in Medicine in 2005. Dr S.N. Gaur joined Vallabhbhai Patel Chest Institute (VPCI) as Lecturer on 16th May 1980, became Reader on 5th July 1987 and became Professor on 5th July 1995. He has been to United Kingdom for 1 year on Deputation from Govt. of India to avail the Commonwealth Medical Fellowship from 1991 to 1992.
Prof. Gaur is the Head of the Department of Respiratory Medicine of VPCI since 1994. He has served as Acting Director of this Institute from 01/07/2011 to 20/11/2012 (now from March 2015 onwards). He was the University Head of the Department of T.B. & Respiratory Diseases (Now renamed as Pulmonary Medicine) of the University of Delhi for three terms in rotation from 1996 to 2002 and 2011-14. He is the Honorary Secretary of National College of Chest Physicians (India) from 1998 to till date. He has been the Editor-in-Chief of the Indian Journal of Chest Diseases and Allied Sciences from July 2011 to November 2012 and now from March 2015 onwards. He is the Editor-in-Chief of the Indian Journal of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology since 2002 (Associate Editor from 1996).
Prof S.N. Gaur is an eminent Chest Physician of our country having an illustrious careerwith over38 years of teaching experience & over 40 years of clinical experience. Prof. Gaur is credited to report first time from India about (1) Anaerobic Lung Disease, (2) Farmer's Lung Disease, (3) Pulmonary Blastomycosis, (4) Use of Lipotropic factor - Choline as an anti-inflammatory agent for Allergic diseases, (5) Prevalence of A.B.P.A. in Asthmatics, (6) Prevalence of Asthma and Rhinitis in Urban and rural Adults population of Delhi, School Children, Industrial population, Petrol pump workers of Delhi, (7) A double blind placebo control trial of Allergen Immunotherapy in asthma and rhinitis, (8) Various new fungal diseases of lung, and many more.
Prof. Gaur has over 157 original Scientific Publications in International (84) & National (73) journals and Books (5), Guidelines (5), Book Chapters (31), Articles (18). He has delivered 11 Orations, 165 Guest Lectures and has participated in 30 Panel Discussions. He has presented over 100 Scientific papers in International and National conferences including recent World Allergy Organization (WAO) conference in Thailand, American College of Chest Physicians (ACCP) conference in Philadelphia, USA, Asia Pacific Congress of Allergy, Asthma and Clinical Immunology (APCAACI) conference at Taipei, Taiwan.He has prepared the first Guidelines for Practice of Allergen Immunotherapy in India (2009).
Prof. Gaur is an Expert Member (T.B. & Chest Diseases) of Rajasthan Public Service Commission. He is examiner of DM, MD & DTCD courses of various Universities of India including the University of Delhi. He has been approved as Supervisor of Ph.D. (T.B. & Respiratory Diseases) of University of Delhi from 2005. He has been an Active Faculty member of the Workshop on Allergy and Immunotherapy (Now renamed as Workshop on Respiratory Allergy - Diagnosis & Management) since 1981 and has trained specialists in the field of Allergy & immunotherapy since then. He has imparted training to various faculty members and specialists of different Universities/ Colleges/ Institutions in Asthma, Allergy, Immunotherapy, Bronchoscopy and other Respiratory Diseases. He has supervised 2 DM (Pulmonary Medicine), 34 MD (Pulmonary Medicine) and has been co-supervisor of 5 PhD's, and even many ofthem haveestablished themselves as distinguished teachers, clinicians and researchers in the field of Respiratory Diseases and allied sciences.

Academy of Allergy from 1998,Member of Indian Aerobiological Society from 1998,Member of Delhi T.B.
